The D’Arcy Slater Boys Cup

The D’Arcy Slater Cup in its 17’ year was a great success with good nominations despite the Covid19 restrictions due to Tennis Wests Loretta Hughes.  Held at the new $5k Busselton Tennis Complex over 4 days in conjunction with the Woman in Tennis Girls Tournament a great atmosphere was generated. With the 2 finalists from 2019  reaching the 2020 Finals the D’Arcy Slater Cup Boys singles attracted a big crowd of spectators.  After a very fierce match which went a set a piece and 15-13 in the 3rd Set Tie Break Caleb Sewell the 2019 Runner up from the Pilbara team took out the match from Korban Priestly playing for the South West A Team. Korban who has played in every D’Arcy Slater Cup since he was 8yrs old was playing in his last DS Cup due to the 13yrs and under age criteria. South West who are great supporters of the DS Cup brought 13 players the Tournament winning the Women in Tennis Girls Tournament and after being runners up to South Coast in 2019 took out the 2020 D’Arcy Slater Cup.

The Covid19 postponement of the State Finals of the Tennis West DSF Country Primary Schools Academy Plate and the Tennis West DSF Sunsmart High Schools Classic in early 2020 was very disappointing for the finalists who had qualified their Schools in the Regional Finals.
The  DSF Academy Plate Finals then played in October at the State Tennis Centre to the delight of the finalists was an all Dunsborough PS affair with the finalists Dunsborough PS  A Team defeating Dunsborough PS  B Team with both teams very evenly matched.
Unfortunately the Tennis West DSF Sunsmart High schools Classic was cancelled which was very disappointing as the Regional Finalists had been invited to play in the Metro Schools Finals and were looking forward to the strong competition and experience.

Judy Dalton Cup

The winner and runner up of the D’Arcy Slater Cup Singles and the girls Woman in Tennis Tournament held in conjunction with the DS Cup are selected to play in the WA State Team for The Judy Dalton Cup which is a National State Tournament for boys and girls qualifying from rural area’s which is held at the very prestigious Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club at the same time as the Australian Open. Unfortunately due to Covid19 the Tournament held in Victoria was cancelled.

Tennis was D’Arcy’s great love and he was an enthusiastic member of the Goomalling Tennis Club , the GGS Prep School Tennis Team and Captain of Tennis in year 8. All the Foundation sponsorship is country based which really encompasses the enjoyment and friendships made by D’Arcy whilst playing at the country tennis tournaments.

The Goomalling Tennis Club

The Goomalling Tennis club holds their annual Sunsmart DSF Tennis tournament every year, which is well supported by players spread throughout the wheat belt with this years tournament proving to be a great success.

The Foundation has a very good relationship with Tennis West, all their fixtures are extremely well done and we always have every opportunity to promote the Foundation with invitations to speak at all DSF fixtures.
