The Goomalling Tennis Club
The Goomalling Tennis club holds their annual Sunsmart DSF Tennis tournament every year, which is well supported by players spread throughout the wheat belt with this years tournament proving to be a great success.
The Foundation has a very good relationship with Tennis West, all their fixtures are extremely well done and we always have every opportunity to promote the Foundation with invitations to speak at all DSF fixtures.
The strong competition and experience gained by playing in the Metro Schools finals was very much appreciated by the Country Schools in spite of the long distances travelled.
Foundation Cup Interstate
Tennis West select a team of 4 boys from the D’Arcy Slater Cup Tournament to travel to the Eastern States to compete in the Foundation Cup which is a National Tennis Tournament for boys from rural area.
D’Arcy Slater Residential Camps
Two D’Arcy Slater live in camps are held each year in the North and South of the State for a maximum of 20 boys.
Tennis West provide a holistic environment where young regional athletes will experience junior development and on court Tennis sessions, match play and strategy, team work and leader ship opportunities as well as understanding the importance of body management (nutrition and recovery Techniques)
Tennis was D’Arcy’s great love and he was an enthusiastic member of the Goomalling Tennis Club.
All the Foundation sponsorship is country based which really encompasses the enjoyment D’Arcy had whilst playing at the country tennis tournaments.
The D’Arcy Slater Boys Cup
The 2017 D’Arcy Slater Cup was held at the Bunbury Tennis Clubs great grass courts and saw a unique combination of an Australian ranking singles event and a Zone Teams Doubles event. 25 Regional towns were represented by 30 teams and half a day was added to the Tournament to accommodate the number of players.
Mid Wests Joshua Carter Successfully defended his singles title with lower Great Southern A Team taking out the teams event.
The D’Arcy Slater Sunsmart Country School Classic for Primary and High Schools took place in early 2018 with qualifying rounds across rural WA. With funding from the D’Arcy Slater Foundation South Bunbury Primary School competing for the first time defeated Georgiana Molloy Anglican school from Busselton at the Alexander Park Tennis Club in Mt Lawley.
The Senior Schools Regional Finalists were invited to play in the Metro Schools Finals at Robinson Park with a Country Schools Award implemented in the tournament.
With funding again provided by the D’Arcy Slater Foundation. The Junior Boys award was won by Busselton’s Georgiana Molloy’s Anglican College with Mary Mackillop College taking out the Junior Girls event.
The very strong Bunbury Catholic College took out the Senior Boys and Girls events with the runners up Esperance Anglican School and Cunderdin Agricultural School.
